Ma 間 is a Japanese expression that can be translated as negative or empty space between two elements. Mirce Velarde is an interdisciplinary artist whose mixed media installations reveal Ma in the encounter and exchange between the other and the self. Her performances interpret ritual passages, exposing the potential of each moment. Adam Slowik, post-digital artist, presents a new variation of Architecture of the Alphabet: a computer-generated typology of 360 sculptural forms that materialize Ma between letters. In Biometric Vitruvian, the performative drawing executed by a human-robot collaboration emphasizes the notion of negative space. In On Ma, the complementary approaches of Velarde and Slowik, reopen the discourse of the undefined, illusive states of becoming.
